Gho-samrakshan, protection of cows is more a duty than a charity. Mahatma Gandhi aptly summarizes this as follows:
Cow protection is the gift of Hinduism to the world. And Hinduism will live so long as there are Hindus to protect the cow. Hindus will be judged not by their tilaks, not by the correct chanting of mantras, not by their pilgrimages, not by their most punctilious observances of caste rules, but their ability to protect the cow
Most of the bulls, calves and cows (milking or otherwise), never meet their natural death, i.e., they are slaughtered. Bharatha desa, the land that reveres the cow, now has the dubious distinction of being one of the largest exporters of beef!
Sethubandhanam’s donors have helped Sai and team rescue many cows/bulls/calves in the past.
Sai Srinivasan, Shri. Gopal and their team (the Periyava Kainkaryam group) are determined to save as many cows from the clutches of death as possible. Shri. Sai’s approach is unique – he purchases the cattle from cow dealers/markets from where they’d be sold for slaughter and takes it upon himself to ensure the cows are transported to one of the network of farms or gho-shalas where cows can spend the rest of their lives.
Sai, a professional who has spent decades in the US, has himself saved 1000 bovines in the past 4 years after relocating to India along with his Periyava Kainkaryam team. Besides, they have supplied various gho-shalas with cow-rehabilitation machines, including prosthetic limbs for cows, to rehabilitate the cows rescued. It’s rare to see someone as committed to the cause as Sai and his team. No mean feat, considering they have regular careers to attend to. Shri. Sai Shrinivasan is also an author of the Sage of Kanchi – Mahaperiyavaa Blog.
This campaign is a part of a monthly initiative to rescue atleast one cow/calf thereby assisting Sai and team. Almost all the cow rescues happen in the Tamil Nadu region, and the rescued bovines will be safely housed in a gho-shala or an integrated farm.
The funds are required to rescue 2 very old cows in Tamil Nadu.
The details of the rescued cow and calf will be updated on the website and our donors are requested to visit the gho-shalas/ farms when possible. Sethubandhanam’s donors have helped rescue 15 cows in the past, the details of which can in the donors and updates section.
