Sponsoring Medical Expenses for Shri. Kalamboor Kadiresan Ayya (Oduvar)
Thirumurai(Tamil: திருமுறை, meaning holy division) is a twelve-volume compilation of sacred songs or poems in praise of Shiva Peruman in the Tamil Language. The first 8 Tirumurais were written by Appar, Sambandhar, Sundarar and Manickavasagar. These poems were traditionally sung by Odhuvars (ஓதுவார்), a community who sing thirumurai in Shiva Temples. The odhuvars have been singing the Thevaram in Temples over centuries and have been helping sustain this living Tamil literary and musical tradition.
The community is shrinking and not many among the Oduvar community take up this tradition and singing as their livelihood. The opportunities have become fewer and the support and interest of the people are becoming less as well. The salary from the temples are not viable enough to support their families.
Shri. Kalamboor Kadiresan Ayya had been working as an Oduvar and spent his life in the service of Shiva temple at Kangeyanallur. He then joined the Tamil Isai Kaloori at Chennai. He subsequently suffered a stroke and has been unable to move and sing. He has two children still studying in school and has a family to support. The amount is being raised to support their family’s education and medical expenses.
We will first try to support a tranche of ₹1,00,000.
