support piping & Plumbing work AT the brahmadesam temple in tirunelveli (PHASE-II)
Background
Brahmadesam, a small beautiful village surrounded by kadana river and many canals, located near the Tirunelveli district of Tamilnadu, is one of many villages where we can see Mother Nature’s beauty. At the centre of this village is the ancient beautiful temple, Brihannayagi sametha Kailasanathar temple. Sage Romasa, grandson of Lord Brahma came to this temple to worship Kailasanathar in the form of swayambhu Linga — that’s how the name Brahmadesam is derived. Like many other temples in India, this temple too has a big pond, a beautiful tall Gopuram, and lots of elegantly carved statues. One such is the Nandhikeshwarar which is carved out of single stone and also a Natarajar statue named Punugu sabapathi with OM prabha around Him, also carved out of a single stone. An astonishing special Lion statue is found in the walls of the temple where there is a round stone inside the mouth of that Lion which can be freely rotated inside the mouth but can’t be taken out of it—what remarkable craftsmanship!
Significance of this cause
One can see the architectural craftsmanship of those days in the walls, stupas, Gopurams, mandapams and even in the ceiling of the temple. Like other temples here also they celebrate Shivaratri, Aarudra dharshanam, pradoshams and especially in the Tamil month, Panguni, in uttira nakshatram, when the Swami comes out in a silver Vrishaba vahanam. In the month of Aipasi uttiram, they celebrate the marriage of Kailasanathar and Brihannayagi in a grand manner. It is a beautiful sight to the bhaktas. This temple is considered as the oldest/first among the “Nava kailayam” temples and also as Navagraha sthalam of Surya Deva.
Despite the support from local people, there is no sufficient funds for pooja materials, wages to workers and to maintain the structural integrity of the temple. It is our responsibility to support and help to preserve our historical and cultural heritage temples and monuments.
Currently, support is being requested to improve the water piping in the temple, to easily supply water to all the different sannidhis (there are many of them in this massive beautiful temple!). Shri. Kumar Gurukkal reached out to us for this. Let us support this gurukkal and great kshetram.
Our donors previously supported to the tune of ₹20,000. For servicing the remaining sannidhis, there is an additional budgetary requirement of ₹34,707.
