COVID Support for traditional Cooks in remote rural areas

Background

The traditional cooks in remote rural areas have been severely impacted by the lockdown. Their income has dropped to virtually nothing and doesn’t seem to be improving in the next few months.  

This campaign would focus on providing financial support to these 129 such individuals in 2 phases.  

The Jagadhguru Veda Parayana Trust: 

  1. Recently Supported 377 vaidikas, gurukkals, pujaris during Shankara Jayanthi (April 2020). The trust disbursed ₹22,49,500  – details of which can be found here. 
  2. Is supporting 550+ priests associated with the Tiruchendur Murugan Temple in an ongoing campaign – details of which can be found here. 

Significance of this cause

The COVID-19  lockdown has impacted several people and events across the country. Traditional cooks whose livelihood depends on ceremonies and functions too have borne the brunt of this lockdown. Their   

With the blessings of His Holiness Pujashri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi, the Jagadhguru Veda Parayana Trust has now taken up the cause to support 129  cooks and families in the remote areas.

Let’s not abandon the makers of food! The significance of food and its makers is an integral facet of our Dharma. Supporting these traditional cooks with ₹3,000 per person will go a long way. 

SRI JAGADHGURU VEDA PARAYANA TRUST’S Effort

The trustees, led by Brahmashri K. Y. Bharaneedhara Sastrigal, secretary of the above trust and a popular exponent of upanyasas, are pioneering an effort to support the cooks in remote rural areas. 

With the blessings of Moolāmnāya Sarvajña Kanchi Kamkoti Pīṭhādhipati, His Holiness Sri Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswati Swamigal, the trust is raising funds to support the cooks in remote rural areas during this COVID-19 lockdown. 

 

ABOUT Sri JagadHguru Vedaparayana Trust

Established by the Moolāmnāya Sarvajña Kanchi Kamkoti Pīṭhādhipatis, HH Sri Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal and HH Sri Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswati Swamigal two decades ago, the trust has been conducting various dharmic activities including:
